Corn & Courgettes

Today we planted nine sweetcorn plants given to us by our allotment neighbour yesterday… they’re best in a square so that they pollinate, so we dug over a weedy patch to fit them in. They’re diddy little things at the moment, but they’ll get big! The courgettes and squashes we planted last week aren’t looking [...]

Sunday Crop

Yesterday Lisa picked: 7 sweetcorn – though some were not quite ready, so we need to make sure the ends are really brown and manky before we pick! 6 onions, including the red one! Several beans – yum! We like these raw, often they don’t make it into the pan. One little courgette – unfortunately [...]

We were delighted to find that beneath all the jungle of weeds our tomatoes were actually growing!! They’re little and green, but hopefully they’ll ripen nicely. Lisa’s mum has also given [...]

Radishes, Beans & Corn

After so much heavy rain and many sunny spells there’s a lot of green on the allotment! Sadly the plants that are doing extremely well are the weeds, but many of our seeds are taking root too. The radishes are doing very well indeed – they desperately needed some thinning out, which Lisa persuaded Tony [...]

Great First Impression

The overalls got their first outing today. It was a very hot day and there were questions from some friends over whether we had gone commando, but a lady does not reveal such things! Met the treasurer of the allotment today and attempts to look like we knew what we were doing failed when Siobhan [...]
