Today was a perfect Spring day… warm sunshine, birds tweeting and much happiness from allotmenteers! Peering beneath the groundsheets we found the Rhubarb has survived and is looking rather healthy… with a bit of luck we’ll be over-run with it – we love it! Ā Perhaps we shouldn’t mention that, it’ll be our summer equivalent of the allotment-owners courgette glut! We had a good old digging and weeding session (as always!), and planted some radishes (Scarlet Globe), lettuce (Tom Thumb), spinach, rocket and salad leaves – from the old seed stash though so whether they come to anything will be a miracle, especially as we forgot the bird scarers again. ...

In with the Garlic

Today Lisa planted the garlic… it was getting a bit stinky sat in the cupboard and the house was starting to smell, so it had to go! Planted two bulbs (about 12 cloves) of Purple Moldovan – the stinky one – hoping they’re ok, one had got a little damp and one of the cloves had started to go a bit mouldy, but we’ll see! Also planted a bulb of Supermarket garlic (about 8 cloves). This is the experiment – some people are saying it fine, others say ‘no way’… some of the cloves had started to sprout already, but they had no smell at all, even once the cloves were separated. Not convinced by the supermarket garlic at this stage – proof is in the eating though,...

In the herb garden

In the herb garden

Lisa spent a lot of the time on Saturday weeding the herb garden… We cut the sage, thyme and chives for a lovely bread and the mint for a tasty salsa and a delicious pudding – all of which we shared with The Gang on Saturday evening. Lisa is wearing theĀ allotmentgirls t-shirt in pink from our merchandise shop The Bay is doing extremely well, it has more than doubled in size since we bought it… we could do with some recipes that use it though!! This chilli plant has also surprised us, we thought we’d lost all of out chilli plants to the rain and weeds, but we found this one still alive n the undergrowth! It’s flowering well so we hope we may get some fruit from...
