Woohoo… after not planting any potatoes this year we dug up 8.5kg today! Last year’s remnant decided to sprout up in our seedbed of leeks, so we have no leeks, just potatoes… can’t complain Tomatoes are looking great, all green so far, but hopefully a bit of sunshine this week will have the glowing red! [...]

Lazyitis has been the biggest feature of this blog, that and digging up weeds! Here’s hoping that 2011 will be known for lots of plot action and plentiful harvests! Today was such a beautiful day – chilly, but the sun was shining, birds were tweeting and no wind at all… perfect for digging and actually [...]

This is what we were up against yesterday! Not too bad as most of it was that annoying ground covering tangly stuff and the half-dead weeds pulled up quite easily! In the foreground are our leeks – now lifted and mostly eaten (Chicken & Leek Pie and Roasted Veg) – and our courgette ‘Ambassador’, which [...]

Everything is coming along very well! We’ve started to stake the ‘Cobra’ beans as they started to trail along the ground, unfortunately only two of the plants made it, but they’re looking strong and have started to flower. Talking of flowers, the courgette flowers are fabulous! And it’s so exciting to see four baby courgettes [...]

We’ve been rather neglectful of our plot over the last couple of weeks and we’ve been fair-weather gardeners while the heavy rain has been pouring down. Today was the day to tackle the triffids! We made a good start, but there are weeds everywhere… including some massive alliums growing out of our stinky bin bags!! [...]

Looks a bit strange but is very effective – we are sure everyone will be doing it soon. Planted today: Lavender [...]

We’re back from Barbados, but sadly no trip to the allotment due to all the rain. We have decided what we’ll be growing though! In no particular order: Leeks Onions Garlic Radish Lettuce Endive French Beans Courgette Cauliflower Broccoli Cabbage Potatoes Carrots Parsnips Beetroot Asparagus and herbs… Salvia (sage) Bay Basil Peppermint Coriander Thyme Chives [...]

Today we dug out the old veg – a row of leeks, a row of parsnips and various potatoes. Quite a few weeds and thistles were taken out too. Unfortunately we uncovered an ants’ nest as well, right next to our little grass path that goes up the middle of the plot, so they’ll have [...]
