A bit behind in blogging, so here’s an update from our Sunny Sunday session! Garlic is fab – the entire row has sprouted So glad we properly weeded that section as the leaves look a lot like grass! It’s not grass, honest! Raspberries are doing well too – leaves are looking really healthy so far [...]

After the disaster with the last lot of garlic, we’re trying again with some ‘Spring-Planting Garlic’ (don’t know the variety)… these bulbs certainly looked healthier than our last, so high hopes this time!! One row planted so far, alongside the raspberries, in the well-dug section – soil looks really good here, no bugs or grubs [...]

At last, a dry and mild day… got lots of digging done this morning, giving us plenty of space for shallots and garlic. Or raspberries? Can’t decide!

Just about dug over the plot (apart from the herb bit)… wouldn’t mind some frosty mornings to kill off bugs and roots we missed!! Still haven’t got the garlic in, but plenty of time… also time to plan properly for next year after this year’s laziness!

The experiment has failed… we have no garlic whatsoever! We know the garlic wasn’t in the best of condition, especially the supermarket stuff, but we did have reasonable hopes for the Purple Moldovan… nothing has appeared and while weeding the plot we expected to find trace of it somewhere… not a clove in sight! Today Lisa planted the garlic… it was getting a bit stinky sat in the cupboard and the house was starting to smell, so it had to go! Planted two bulbs (about 12 cloves) of Purple Moldovan – the stinky one – hoping they’re ok, one had got a little damp and one of the cloves [...]

Our seeds and potatoes arrived… we ordered them through our allotment association from DT Brown (works out so much cheaper if you do this!). So we’ve got: Purple Moldovan Garlic (the bigger bulbs in the pic, the others are supermarket garlic which we’ll experiment with) Radish – Scarlet Globe (plus two half packs left over [...]

We’re back from Barbados, but sadly no trip to the allotment due to all the rain. We have decided what we’ll be growing though!
